Unique Volunteer Opportunities

Commissary Kitchen

Assist our chefs by preparing and packaging food and meals to be distributed at our various meal sites. On Fridays, these shifts may also include cleaning and sanitizing all kitchen equipment and workstations. The full commercial kitchen is used by Loaves & Fishes staff to cook large quantities of rescued food. Entrees created at the kitchen are then reheated and distributed at community meal sites across the Twin Cities. This opportunity can accommodate individuals, small groups, and large teams. Click on the link below to sign up!

Serenity Village Street Outreach Distribution

Volunteer with us at Serenity Village located in Crystal, MN! Every Friday, Loaves & Fishes brings large quantities of food to Serenity Village for those who cannot make it to our community meal sites throughout the week. This opportunity can accommodate small or large groups to assist in loading food into guests’ vehicles. Please connect with our Director of Volunteers & Outreach to sign your group up today: volunteer@loavesandfishesmn.org.

St. Cloud

Volunteer with us at our St. Cloud Warehouse! Our St. Cloud Warehouse has become the HUB for our outreach and partner support in that area.  Every week we consolidate food rescue opportunities, bringing it back to our warehouse.  That food is then separated and re-packed for bulk distribution or taken into our Commissary Kitchen to be prepared in bulk quantities for meal site distribution. This is an active volunteer position that will require standing, bending, lifting (20lbs), and regular movement. Volunteers do not need previous warehouse, cooking, or food handling experience to assist in breaking down or re-palletizing bulk foods. Click on the link below to sign up!

Youth Participation Guidelines

We appreciate and support youth involvement in community service. Our youth participation guidelines help provide a safe and efficient work environment while maintaining the dignity of our guests. The following age breakdowns are suggested best practices. However, because each community meal site is different, Site Coordinators may make exceptions at their discretion and with parental input and permission.

Youth 16 years of age and older can help in all areas of the community meal sites.

Volunteers age 15 and younger may handle cold food.

Youth age 13 to 15 must have one adult to every five youth for supervision purposes.

Youth age 12 and under need to have direct one-on-one supervision. It is suggested that children under the age of 8 do not attend unless prior arrangements are made with the community meal site’s coordinator.

Testimonial: “This Experience is a Gift!”

“I initially came to Holy Rosary for Loaves & Fishes to serve with a Honeywell work group. What I did not realize was how powerful the experience would be! As guest after guest passed, with big smiles, many with sadness in their eyes, thanking us for serving them….by the end of the first night I felt as though I should be thanking them for the amazing feelings that washed over me. For this reason, my daughter and I have been back twice more and will be back many more times, and with the rest of our family, too. This experience is a gift!” -Katrina
